こんにちは！今日はちょっと涼しげなお話をしようと思います。
突然ですが、「風鈴」って最近手にしたこと、ありますか？
チリン、チリン……あの音を聞くだけで、なんだか風が吹き抜けていくような気がしますよね。エアコンの効いた部屋にいても、あの音を聞いた瞬間、ふっと涼しくなる気がする。日本人の感覚って、すごいなぁと思います。
今日ご紹介するのは、そんな風鈴を３種類。それぞれ素材が違って、音も雰囲気もぜんぜん違うんです。
まず一つ目は、ガラス製の風鈴。
これはもう、夏の定番ですよね。透き通ったガラスに絵付けが施されていて、見た目もすごくきれい。音は高くて軽やか、「カランッカランッ」という感じの澄んだ音色です。縁側や窓辺に吊るすと、光を受けてキラキラ輝いて、視覚でも涼しさを感じられます。インテリアとしてもおしゃれなので、プレゼントにも人気ですよ。
二つ目は、陶器製の風鈴。
ガラスとはまた違う、少し丸みのある、やわらかい音がするんです。「コロンッ」とか「カランッ」という感じで、どこかほっとするような響き。陶器ならではの温かみのある質感と、手作り感のある風合いが魅力で、和風のお部屋にはもちろん、最近はシンプルモダンなインテリアにも合わせやすいデザインのものが増えています。
そして三つ目が、南部鉄製の風鈴。
岩手県の伝統工芸、南部鉄器から生まれた風鈴です。これがまた、他の二つとは全然違う音でして……「リーン」と深く、余韻が長く続く音色なんです。一度聞いたら忘れられない、そんな存在感があります。見た目も重厚で渋く、長く使えば使うほど味が出てくる。大人へのギフトや、ちょっと特別なものを探している方にぴったりです。
ガラス、陶器、南部鉄。同じ「風鈴」でも、素材が違えばこんなにも個性が違うんですね。

Hello! Today I’d like to share something that might make you feel a little cooler just thinking about it.
Out of the blue — have you held a fūrin (wind chime) in your hands lately?
Chirin, chirin… Just hearing that sound makes you feel as though a breeze is drifting right through you, doesn’t it? Even sitting in an air-conditioned room, the moment you hear it, there’s this sudden sense of coolness washing over you. Japanese sensibility really is something remarkable.
Today I’d like to introduce three types of wind chimes. Each is made from a different material, and the sound and atmosphere each creates is completely its own.
First up: the glass wind chime.
This one is the quintessential summer classic. Delicate paintings adorn the clear glass, making it simply beautiful to look at. The sound is high and light — a crisp, bright karan-karan kind of tone. Hang one under the eaves or by a window, and it catches the light, sparkling and glittering, so you feel the coolness through your eyes as well. It’s stylish enough to double as home décor, which makes it a popular gift choice too.
Second: the ceramic wind chime.
This one has a softer, rounder sound quite unlike glass — something like a gentle koron or karan, with a warmth that settles the heart. The appeal lies in the tactile warmth unique to ceramic and its handcrafted feel. While it suits traditional Japanese interiors beautifully, designs that pair well with simple, modern spaces have been on the rise lately.
And third: the Nanbu iron wind chime.
Born from Nanbu Ironware, the traditional craft of Iwate Prefecture, this one sounds entirely different from the other two. It rings with a deep, resonant rīn — a tone whose lingering echo stays with you long after the sound fades. Once you’ve heard it, you won’t forget it; it has that kind of presence. The look is weighty and refined, and it only grows more characterful with time. It’s a perfect choice for a gift to an adult, or for anyone searching for something a little special.
Glass, ceramic, Nanbu iron — the same “wind chime,” yet how different each one’s personality is depending on the material.
